For the past 12 years, our family has been conducting a toy drive for Children's Hospital, located in Oakland, California. The donations are given directly to the children that are being seen in the Rehabilitation Department of Children's Hospital. We collect money and toys for boys and girls from infants to age 18 and deliver them to this department during the holiday season. All the proceeds go directly to the hospital and during December, Janelle delivers the toys herself. We deliver to inpatient boys and girls, outpatient boys and girls that are coming to see their doctors and therapists, along with providing gifts for other family members. The gratefulness of the doctors, nurses, therapists, families and especially the kids make us want to keep doing this. It's an amazing feeling to give to these children.
Occasionally, patients shop in our "toy closet" for their own brothers and sisters, allowing them to experience the joy of holiday giving to their own family. What a great use of our donations!
